In 1965, Captain Heinz sailed across the Atlantic in a 30 foot trimaran. Viennese papers published a front page image of “two crazy Austrians sailing across the Atlantic in an unproven design.” It was then that Captain Heinz happened upon St. Croix (after mistaking the lights of the South Shore for Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas), and decided to stay. After discovering the beauty of Buck Island, he took the mission upon himself to share this gem with visitors from all over the world.
